At the ripe old age of 16, the soulful Nicole Zita
sings and plays like a person far beyond their years. She
draws her influences from Motown to Memphis and the Toronto
Sound with complete honesty and unabashed talent. Nicole has been playing classical guitar and
participating in competitions since the mere age of 6. She has
won 1st place medals since this age, and different
scholarships. At the age of 11, Nicole started studying piano,
and incorporated it into her playing gigs. At the age of 12,
Nicole started performing in bars. She soon realized her love
for singing, and continued on with that as well. Playing and
singing together with numerous different bands, she finally
put something together, and got her own steady gig at
Mojo's

Playing her house
gig at Mojo's since she was 13 has allowed her to grow rapidly, but
steadily, as a musician and performer. Her band is seasoned and can
deliver the groove Nicole lays down on classics like Billie
Holiday's
'God
Bless The Child' to B.B. King's
'How Blue Can You
Get'. "This is the first time I've had my own gig. I've just
been jamming downtown at the Orbit Room and the Reservoir Lounge and
in Mississauga at the Fox & Fiddle." she said "I think it's pretty
cool. Sometimes it's intimidating, but I'm doing what I love to do.
If they like it, that's good." |

As if her singing and guitar playing isn't
enough, midway through her jam, Zita sits down at the piano
and plays some of her own songs, reminding listeners of both
Alicia Keys and Tori Amos. 'I just started writing
some poems and putting them to music,' said Zita.
She has recently won 1st place in a Dominos sponsored
star search, and has opened up for Downchild
at the Silver Dollar Room. Nicole was exposed
to music early in life, courtesy of her dad, who played drums in the
family combo, The Zita Band. “When I was 5, I always used
to listen to them practice in the basement,” she said. She started
out studying classical music, before branching off into Rock, Blues,
and Jazz. She practices for up to 3 hours per day. Nicole also plays
the piano, doing a lot of Sarah McLaughlin material. “I enjoy
electric guitar the most, it’s very upbeat,” she said. “Carlos
Santana is my favorite player.”
