ABOUT ZITA
- The most inspirational person I have
been influenced by musically would
definitely be my father. Though he is a phenomenal drummer, he
probably should have been a guitar player. To this day, I don't
know anyone else so passionate about all aspects of music; which
allows me to learn and respect many diverse talents. A few of
which in particular have driven me to play guitar. Listening to
Carlos Santana's "Black Magic Woman" and
Prince's "Purple Rain" on
long drives home back from guitar lessons has forever
changed my approach on guitar. After my father tried teaching me
all he knew about guitar, he decided it would be best for me to
take classical guitar lessons. At age 6, that's what I
did. My very first guitar was a nylon stringed El Degas. The body
was small, and the action was high...beautiful. When I imagine
performing now, I can't imagine singing and playing guitar
separately. When I first started playing guitar, I never sang
along. The first time I
tried to sing for my family, I hid in the closet, so no one could
see what I looked like. Singing is something that I worked on with
my father for awhile, until taking part in singing lessons, first
locally, then with renowned teacher Elaine Overholt who
helped in many fabulous ways. My very first acoustic song, was Sarah Mclaughlin's
"Building A Mystery." She's definitely big influence to me
as a singer/musician. |
